The White House just announced significant changes to the Affordable Care Act's Employer Mandate for 2015 in order to give medium-sized businesses an extra year to comply. According to the recent changes issued by the Treasury Department, employers with 50-99 employees do not have to comply with the Employer Mandate (offer health care coverage or pay a penalty) until 2016 - that's a delay of one year. That means for now, the Employer Mandate will only take effect in 2015 for businesses with 100 or more employees. Also - those larger companies won't have to offer insurance to as many full-time workers to avoid a penalty. Employers with 100 or more workers now only have to offer insurance to at least 70 percent of full-time workers in 2015. That threshold will go back to 95 percent in 2016 and beyond. The Treasury Department says that will "help employers that, for example, may offer coverage to employees with 35 or more hours, but not yet to that fraction of their employees who work 30-34 hours." |
